Welcome Craig! I had gOS running on my old laptop also. I really liked the window manager 'e17' it was using.
E17 is a nice lite wm but gOS loads it down with Gnome components anyway, so it defeats the purpose. I'm now using straight Ubuntu 8.04 x64 on my new core 2 duo based laptop, eith the default Gnome desktop. I'm not sure what others think of an install fest, but the ones I've been to require quite a bit of time, more than the 3 hours we spend both at the Riverside meeting and SRCLE meetings. You have to alot time for equipment setup (desktop units), os install, plus lots of time for hardware debugging. The guys at OCLUG meet at UC Fullerton and have there meetings from 10am to 3pm (at least the last time I attended). That seems to be about the right amount of time as some people always show up 30 mins to 45 mins into the meet. That said, if you got a laptop thats needs an install bring it with you. I haven't installed every os, but I've installed quite a few, and I or others can always help out. I usually have a few of the latest distros I use burned on cd with me. Again, welcome to the list :-) --Manny On Sat, Sep 20, 2008 at 6:15 AM, Chris Penn <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi Craig, > > Welcome to the list. Glad to here you are a Linux user.
