Restore file?

That I know of HP's use a restore partition. It's usually a hidden
partition, so it won't show up within windows file manager.

You can see it with gParted or some other partitioning tool. It'll
have a weird name with some numbers, and usually takes up about 10Gb's
on a Vista system.

Be careful with automated installs. You'll want to do "manual
partitioning" and unhide the partition so you can add it to the grub
menu. Just name it "**WARNING*** WILL DESTROY YOUR DATA" or something
to that nature, as this will wipe the other partitions usually.

I find it best to just nuke it. For 14 bucks or so you can order a
restore disk direct from HP. Actually less, but I needed next day
delivery. Then you can run "windows de-crapifier" to get rid of the
HP garbage.
Good Luck!

BTW, my wife has an HP laptop. I'm Linux ONLY, on my boxes ;-)
