I'm moving forward; going to give one last chance to Ubuntu 8.10 tonight, using a different video card, in case that was the issue. Then if that doesn't work I'm going to move on; possibly try the latest Mandriva; I've been happy with it for years.
The big issue today is whether I stick with KDE or switch to Gnome. It took me over an hour to even figure out how to use KDE, but I see that I can, if I decide to go that route. I've always been able to use Gnome, though I've gotten used to the old KDE. I'm beyond which email client I'll use. The big issue now is having 'stuff' on the screen I can click on to open. I've gotten used to 'shortcuts' on the desktop, both to subdirectories (some call them folders) and to actual files and some software. I don't know how to that with either Gnome or the new KDE. Any comments, ideas? Thanks! Jeff -- Jeff Lasman, Nobaloney Internet Services P.O.
