It seemed like a strange question (don't ask me why, cause I don't know)
but I suppose I can answer.... I'll try to make it short. Do I know you Mark?
My brother, who works for IBM, is a person whom I would ask tech
questions,
because he did many sys admin type of work at his job. Mostly with MS.
I only asked him about a couple times a year, cause I didn't want to bug him.
One day he said that if I really want to learn about computers and how they
work, I should learn linux command line. So I started studying linux. Ubuntu
in particular.
Some days I would be in Barnes 'n' Noble, and I would be reading linux
and/or
ubuntu books, and I would see people there, in the linux section, and ask them
linux
question, and often they would be glad to answer, or maybe they were just being
kind.
Then one of them said I should look for user groups on Meetup.com. So I found
this
group, and that's it.
I have found that being part of this group, and just reading the emails
has enabled
me to learn far more about computers than any other way I can imagine. All I
have to do
is read the emails, and I learn. When I want to learn more I google it (or
dogpile it) , or
Barnes 'n' Noble it. When I can't find it that way, I post a question to the
list, and that's it.
I even learned how to google from this group. "In the beginning," there
was google,
but it did me no damb good. Still I don't know why. But a transformation
ocured, and for
some reason I can find almost anything I want computer related on google, where
before
it was very difficult.
