LinuxDevices takes a look at the Palm Pre with screenshots and links
to reviews. "Several reviews came to the same conclusion: The Pre may
not be an Apple iPhone killer, especially with the arrival this week
of the iPhone 3GS, but with its multitasking and synchronization
features, it may give RIM's BlackBerry a run for its money in the
corporate market. Others note that in order to do that, however, the
device will first need to spread beyond the Sprint network, as planned
for early next year, to Verizon Wireless and possibly AT&T. Palm will
also need to quickly boost the number of available WebOS apps, say
reviewers."

Yeah, I was kinda assuming that would be necessary for the Pre to
work with AT&T. The true test is whether or not the Pre's 3g chip
uses a frequency that is compatible with the AT&T network.

I went down to the local store yesterday and tried out the demo. The
interface is pretty slick as the videos show you. I'll probably
upgrade when they get the next batch in since I'm tired of my current WinMo phone. It works well now, but man Microsoft needs to redo their
interface for fingers instead of the stylus.

The short answer as why the current Pre won't work on AT&T.
AT&T and T-Mobile = GSM
Sprint and Verizon = CDMA

I haven't seen anyone crack a Pre yet... I wonder if 3g on the Pre

I'll leave it up to others to explain exactly WHY the current Pre
will
never work with AT&T.

To be honest, does it really need to be an iPhone killer? Hell no. The iPhone is overhyped, and I use an Apple MacBook Pro.

If it can do what it does best, then excellent.
