No effect on OSS at all, the issue isn't about XML it seems. Rather the issue 
is regarding i4i's patented XML handling algorithms which MS appears to have 
"borrowed".

Groklaw has a piece on this but for the first time I wonder at the accuracy, 
given the article above. The groklaw article seems to be focused on patents and 
crowing about MS being stuck in the position it has put others rather what 
appear to be the facts in the case (if the Engadget post is spot on).
