Ah, well. My situation was that I wanted to give permission to a resource on a Linux server using a centralized authentication source in a mixed Windows and Linux Environment. With what was already in place it made more sense to have the Linux box query the MSAD for permissions since all of the users/groups already existed there. Once the Linux box joined the domain everything fell neatly into place.
