Thanks Adam, I might need to bind to the AD server later on but for now my part in the project is just to confirm my hostname, username, and password which is why I was assigned to use testsaslauthd.

I can send you my 15 step process on joining a ubuntu machine to AD if you would like. I do not use testsaslauthd so I wouldn't be much help there. My problem is that there is an Active Directory server that IT at my school maintains and I need to use testsaslauthd to authenticate students that are in the Active Directory. The tutorial I found is at http://www.linuxmail.info/active-directory-cyrus-sasl-authentication/, but I am confused as to why I need kerberos and how would I find out m own realm. So I am wondering if this setup on the link is the solution I am looking for. I looked at your link Chris but I don't know if for my problem if I need to join the domain of the Active Directory. Unfortunately my results with it were not as good as his. I used https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ActiveDirectoryWinbindHowto to do what i needed which I got from Charles Wyble and it worked without issue. -Chris On Tue, Jan 5, 2010 at 12:45 PM, Jesus Noland <konpa...@yahoo.com> wrote: > > Yea I don't have a choice but thanks for the tip on using Likewise. > > > Jesus Noland > Computer Science Student > Cal State Fullerton, University > --- > Just want to learn. > > --- On Tue, 1/5/10, Randall Whitman <909li...@whizman.com> wrote: > > From: Randall Whitman <909li...@whizman.com> > Subject: Re: [LinuxUsers] Using Testsaslauthd > To: "SoCal LUG Users List" <linuxusers@socallinux.org> > Date: Tuesday, January 5, 2010, 11:03 AM > > > > So once you join to the AD and login can you use testsaslauthd?
