FWIW, all of the GSPCA stuff was rolled into the kernel a couple of years ago; 
you shouldn't have to download and compile anything except possibly recompiling 
the kernel.  I'm not familiar with how this is done in Ubuntu.

However, I've also dealt specifically with GSPCA cams before.  You should be 
able to load this one from a kernel module that's already built in to the 
kernel; try searching for/loading module "gspca_sonixj".  Again, if it's not 
already compiled, you'll have to recompile the kernel module somehow.

It seems the script can't find the module to install it.  
Could be you need to give the full path when invoking the build script.  See if 
it actually was created in the directory.  If it did you can probably copy it 
over to the proper place manually.   Make sure you give it the proper 
permissions.
