Hence why I suggest decoupling from the carrier... with the
CradlePoint gadget you can pick any carrier, since you just plug
whatever modem or phone is compatible with their service into the
CradlePoint.

Maybe find one that offers w/ no contract. Then when Sprint rolls out
4G, if "unlimited" is important, then switch at that point.

The good thing from the iPad persective with this approach is that you
can either buy a lower priced model with same amount of RAM but no 3G,
or spend the "savings" on a higher RAM SKU.

Another possibility is Android now supports tethering and wifi bridging.
