My goal is to be a Linux admin managing > multiple clients sites. Please advise. We're in the webhosting business; a green datacenter in Los Angeles, office in Riverside. Small company. Chris posted a great list; I won't repeat it here. But I will emphasize the importance of scripting as automation. We manage mostly webhosting servers, remotely, for us and for other clients. We average about 100 servers per admin, roughly 10 hours per week. Because we script and automate. If you're local, have a day's worth of time, and would like to see the real world, let me take you on a datacenter run. Give me a call.
