Another option is to look into official training and certification such as
RHCE, I know a few people who got jobs at Amazon and Facebook because of
RHCE, so it's not just fluff...

Take college classes perhaps...

Learn your basic networking skills... it helps immensely... another thing
mentioned was to learn about storage... learn about virtualization... that's
the hot market...
