The issue I've had with most generic/ubuntu type Linux implementations on tablets is that the UI is not very touch friendly... Android was designed for touch which means the UI actually works and the boot/load times are very minimal.
This is a huge problem with Windows on tablets too, barely usable because of the non touch optimized UI and just the sheer bulk of the OS.
