0. If the archive account is stored in an email format, on an IMAP server,
   then he can use any IMAP client to read the messages, and have all the
   search features of the chosen MUA.

1. Try sphider on a Maildir store, rather than on a "normal" website
   <www.shpider.eu>.

2. Custom web form which calls ack-grep.

3. Gmane, as excellently suggested by Brian, with Xapian for search.
