What you do next depends on the direction you want to take.  If you want to 
learn what's going on you can download the latest ubuntu liveCD  (or almost 
any other LiveCD), and start looking.

If you want to get your system up and running you do this:

Remove the drive (hopefully it's a real drive and not the kind of SSD used in 
the earliest netbooks, the ones that were mounted chips implemented as 
drives), get one of those usb adapters (you can get them at Frys; probably 
lots of other places as well, hook it up to your desktop system, back up the 
home directory, wipe the first few hundred sectors of the drive, put it back 
in your netbook, reinstall the OS (wiping those few hundred sectors makes the 
OS install CD/DVD think it's a clean drive), and then restore your home 
directory.

Me, I need my systems up and running; I'd probably do the latter.

(Note I have an early Netbook with a non-removabls SSD; I don't store any 
important data on it at all.)
