My apologize for the bastardized spelling in the subject.

I read an article on Slashdot this morning; it seems that both Barnes&Noble
and Amazon have new updates which make it impossible to root their tablets,
and at least in the case of the Nook makes it impossible to get the Android
store installed (while you can load a different kernel from the memory card,
the firmware requires a B&N-signed kernel.

Or at least so says Slashdot.

I've called B&N and verified the points salient to me (I can't load anything I
want from the Android Store; I can't load the Android Store app).

So back it goes, today.

Should I just buy the cheapest $100 or lower tablet out there which has
Android store and will take both B&N and Amazon ebook apps? Or should I be
looking at something more expensive? All I want is the book apps from both
vendors perhaps the Chase app if there's a camera, a shell app, a decent
browser, and a few others. Don't need Netflix; I thought it was a nice
feature on the Kindle, but never used it; I'm not going to sit down at a
restaurant and watch a movie and at home I've got it on my television.

So, any suggestions?

Thanks!

Jeff
