I recently read an article (sorry, don't remember where) that mentioned that
Alienware wasn't as good now that it's owned by Dell.

Nevertheless, I'm looking for a long-term laptop, and I can put either of
these into my budget if I decide to do so.

(I'm looking at them at QVC because they take returns without a restocking
fee, which is important in the event the newest sysems don't work well with
Linux. Before buying I'd look at options as it appears the Dell store is much
less expensive. And the Dell store offers credit terms with 21 years to pay
[yeah, really <smile>].)

18", full 1080p
$2750 (didn't check at dell store)

17", slightly less impressive specs, but just as good where it counts
$1930 ($1624.00 at dell store)

These are pricey, but affordable and my main interest is in whether or not
they're worth the money.

Any thoughts?

Jeff
