Mostly it depends on what you are going to do with it.

My Wife has a Dell 1564 Win7 (Ubuntu Dual boot for me [?] )i3 4 GB Ram 250
GB HD at the time cost around $800.  2 years later it still more than fits
her needs.

What will this machine function as?  What will be its purpose?  If Gaming
what kinds of games?
