I'd have to agree that it's not the firewall, and must be the box. Still could be hardware or software. If you can, run a live-CD on it, and see if it has the same issues. If so, it's got to be hardware. Also try another NIC like previously suggested. Sounds like you guys are close to solving the mystery. Please let us know once you figure it out what the problem was.
