Hmm...I think I might be stuck in my ways as far as dealing with root
goes.  ;-)

I concede the points, I can see how this would work.  I guess I just
wasn't expecting to have to take what I feel is such a roundabout way
to gain root status.  (I guess you can tell I haven't tried Ubuntu
yet, or this probably wouldn't have been such a surprise.)

Is this set-up really a good idea, or is this something done primarily
because they figure most people using this distro aren't going to be
very familiar with Linux, and this is supposed to protect them from
making a mistake?
