Yes, I appreciate the minor touch that SuSE has when you log in as
root user on the GUI. And yes I'm an OpenSuSE/SLES/SLED user too.
Keeping tips and tricks from other Linux users is a neat and practical
idea. :)

Regardless, if you really want to allow the root user GUI login in
Ubuntu, just do:

- Go to System, Administration, Login Window
- Enter your user password (main user)
- In the "Login Window Preferences" dialog box, click on Security.
- Put a check mark on "Allow local system administrator login"
- Close the Window
- Go to System, Administration, Users and Groups
- Click on "Unlock", then enter your main user password
- Double Click on "root" user
- Click on "Set Password by Hand", and enter the password for root.
- Click OK.

Pretty simple huh? :) Enjoy.
