Yes, I appreciate the minor touch that SuSE has when you log in as root user on the GUI. And yes I'm an OpenSuSE/SLES/SLED user too. Keeping tips and tricks from other Linux users is a neat and practical idea. :)
Regardless, if you really want to allow the root user GUI login in Ubuntu, just do: - Go to System, Administration, Login Window - Enter your user password (main user) - In the "Login Window Preferences" dialog box, click on Security. - Put a check mark on "Allow local system administrator login" - Close the Window - Go to System, Administration, Users and Groups - Click on "Unlock", then enter your main user password - Double Click on "root" user - Click on "Set Password by Hand", and enter the password for root. - Click OK. Pretty simple huh? :) Enjoy. On Wed, Nov 5, 2008 at 9:42 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > >> # sudo passwd root >> >> Afterwhich, you can start using the root user via "su".
