Yes.  You installed the autopackage version of amsn.  I think the way to
remove this is to run 'sudo package remove amsn'.  Once that's done, run
'sudo apt-get install amsn', and you'll install a working version directly
from the ubuntu repositories.  You can open up the Synaptic Package Manager,
and click search to look for any package. If you search for amsn, it should
show up and you can click to install it (no websurfing / remembering where
to download :)

The reason amsn doesn't show up in dpkg's list is that you installed it
through autopackage, and dpkg cannot be aware of those installations.
