Have you gone to the Volume Control Applet in the System Tray by Right
Clicking on the speaker symbol? Choose Open Volume Control. Check the
sliders and the mute buttons. If you don't see all of the controls you can
open Preferences.
If it is more serious than this, say wrong driver then it should show a
proprietary driver in Hardware Drivers. It could be a problem with not
having the right codecs for Youtube.
