I'd probably advise 2.x; while both are supported and stable, 2.x still
seems to be more prevalent.  2.x scripts will run in more places right now
(where 3.x may not be installed).  If you admin your own server, jump right
to 3.x; I'm hearing good things (haven't gone beyond dipping my toes in yet,
though)
