Yeah, I thought about that.  I don't have one lying around in the immediate
vicinity, but maybe this is the trick anyway.

I'm downloading Qimo right now.  Just for the h of it.  We'll see ... *wink*

I have no idea how much RAM are in these machines.  I assume 256, but I was
too lazy to check.  Could lack of memory cause the puking?

On both machines, it fails at the "installing software" stage.  Then, one
machine won't allow either grub or lilo to load.
