I don't think anybody who values compatibility would praise Mac. My wife is a
mac fan and I am constantly pulling my hair out trying to make
her box play nicely in a heterogeneous environment.

People criticize linux because it sometimes doesn't work with arbitrary
hardware under arbitrary conditions right out of the box -- and then praise
MacIntosh because it manages to work right *most of the time* when limited to a
very few specific platforms under very controlled conditions.

And, yes, Windows is even worse. People don't realize what a hassle it can be
to make a Windows OS work out of the box on random hardware. That's why people
buy it installed and end up having to buy a new box when a new version comes
out, rather than simply upgrade.

Most people do not have problems like this. I have used Linux for a

It is harder to troubleshoot a problem if it is not widespread as few
people have encountered it.

As for OS/X, you can have it. It is a closed OS made for closed
hardware. That's why it works. I would not buy a Mac if it was the
only computer there was and I write that knowing that my first
computer was an Apple II. What I loved about the Apple II was that it
was open and you could look under the hood and tinker with it. Apple
has gone to the dogs, thanks to Jobs. Sure it makes money, but it is
not the same company that it once was. It is just another version of
Microsoft, but worse. They have taken from open source and give little
back. They produced locked down hardware and dumbed down software for
people who don't know the difference or care, IMO.

OK. Here is the screenshots. Take a look at it.
Really irritating...

And people wonder why I use OS X for my desktop OS and only use Linux
on servers...
