I don't think he was making comparisons, and he wasn't really complaining - this is what a beta is for; we want adventurous individuals to grab the release *before* it's polished to find the spots that need polishing (like sharing the desktop being broken). This way the developers can fix it.
jamescw, you should submit a bug report ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs). They've made it very easy to submit bug reports, and they can triage it, mark it duplicate, or let you know if you did something wrong. You'll have to create an account to do it, but that's free, and this is a simple, great way to help make ubuntu better. Most projects have a similar setup, and if something doesn't work the way you'd expect (i.e. you upgrade, and things stop working without notice), filing a bug report will inform the developers of the problem, so they can improve their product. Once you've submitted the bug report, try de-installing the desktop sharing program: in Synaptic, mark it for "complete removal". Once that's done, re-install it. Then try again, and add a post to your bug report telling of success or failure (this will help the developers more quickly zone in on where the problem is).
