Hi ak!
you can download a linux OS by going to its web site e.g. ubuntu.com and
download the iso file, burn that file in a blank CD and boot your
computer from it. you can run it with out installing it, so it is safe
to get started that way. for programing I believe python is already pre
installed in many linux distibution.
