If you have more than 1 sound card a great program to check if they
work with pulse audio is pavucontrol.
Also if Amarok just skips to the next track, then It might be the
codec issue. make sure you have them installed.
I'm sorry but that's all of the original things I can give you.

Let me ask a few questions first: How many sound cards does your
computer have? If you have more than one, Amarok may be sending
sound to the wrong device. Is there any sound at all? Can you
watch a youtube video - is there sound with it? If yes, then
there's something jacked in Amarok's configuration. I haven't
used Amarok for some time and don't remember how to configure it.
If you've determined no answers to all the above questions and the
computer is entirely silent, the first thing I would suggest is to
see if your sound module loaded properly. From the root prompt,
type 'lsmod | grep snd' (without the quotes) and post the output.
If that is determined to be loading properly, the issue is with
the configuration of ALSA. I use ubuntu based Linux, and I know
there's some differences in the area of ALSA configuration between
Fedora and Ubuntu. You'd want to search the repos and install a
program called something like alsaconfig or alsaconf - also
alsamixergui or alsamixer.
I wish I could do better than giving you the flow-chart for
finding the culprit, but that's the way to determine the issue.
Once we have the output of the command I referenced above, we'll
have a better idea of what you're up against.

Hello everyone. apprentice linux user here. I've recently
installed
Fedora 14 KDE on my sony vaio VPCEB33FM and everything has worked
great. I've uninstalled the k office and installed libre
office and
also grabbed what has always been one of my favorite programs,
Amarok,
as well as getting all available updates and bug fixes. The
only other
change from the default installation is google chrome.
However, amarok has no sound. I've checked alsamixer,
installed the
xine back end stuff, I have all the dependencies, and I am
getting the
information in Amarok when music is currently playing as if
everything
is fine. The only other thing I can think of is that there are
pulse
audio settings enabled for both Gnome and KDE, but I have no
idea how
to disable the gnome part of that.
Long story short, does anyone have any advice to get Amaork
running? I
can provide any information needed with instruction.
