I think it also depends on whether you will want to access both Windows and
Linux at the same time. If true, then the dual boot is out of question as
you must reboot to shift to the other OS. You will need to installing a
virtual machine for Linux or Windows depending on what host OS you want and
can even NAT the network interfaces. Cygwin is also an option but I rarely
walk down its road.
I personally have Fedora as the host OS and Windows XP is running on virtual
machine to sometime edit or downgrade Microsoft 2007 docs to 2003-2007
format that may be skewed when opened with Openoffice .
