Hi all... I just took up a social service work for my school when my principal requested me to set up a proxy server for them. It was done abt 5 yrs ago and the machine is almost in its last breath. So, I told them to get a new machine.. and I installed CentOS4.3 (oh yes, I know i bitched abt it.. )
I have no idea how the current machine was set up.. with some assumptions I was able to figure out stuff and got the proxy (Squid) up and running... and suddenly i am thrown a bomb.. There is a Webserver managed by . .ehh.. i guess direct-i and it has dedicated ipaddr just like the proxy server i had configured. This webserver runs on windows.. and it has couple of drives shared for access by clients. Now, branches of this school across india sends updated reports to this server and it is stored on the shared drive. This drive needs to be accessed by machines on LAN. These clients are connected to proxy server by ip class of 192.168.2.xx whereas the webserver is 203.something with subnet of 255.255.255.0 .. Now webserver is also routed thru the proxy server but with dedicated ip.. (thats what is told to me); the issue that i am facing is that the LAN clients aren't able to do file charing amongst themselves and with the main shared drive on the webserver! How do i get the webserver with different ip class on local file sharing with clients at calss C ip? Webserver (windows) Proxy Server (CentOS) Local Clients (win98/xp) ip: 203.94.xx.xx connected to router ip class of subnet: /24 at eth1: 192.168.1.1(also GW) 192.168.2.xx gw: 203.94.xx.bb eth0: 203.94.xx.xx Gw: 192.168.2.250 and 192.168.2.250 eth0:0 192.168.2.250 D: drive shared httpd: on and updated via squid: on internet smb: off (on request) the above is a general idea. You will see that win Webserver has two gateways.. one is that of the squid proxy server. Proxy is running fine... but Local Clients are not able to access shared folder on Webserver. How do i make it possible? Any one who has idea what needs to be done? It would be a great help.. thanks in advance ~ anup [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
