hi,
have u enable sar on the server? by sar u can get the historical data of the
cpu and memory load at the time of hanging.
also u can get a kernel dump at the time of hang up to check for actual cause.
we too had a similar prob and the cause was external hba drivers other than the
bundled ones.

Subject: [LinuxVadaPav] Server reboot ? reason?

Hi,

I have two incidents when server (primarliy MySql) hung and it had to
be hard booted. Under such circumstances, how do I find the cause of
the failure. I have collectd service running on the server and it
provides graph of parameters such as memory, load etc... from the
graph I dont see any heavy usage, except load was a bit high but not
so much that a 'linux' server should behave like windows. I want to
know where to look for information on such an incident.

Also, where does kernel log cause of reboot ? does it happen at all ?
I believe it doesn't. yet, if I am missing something, then let me know.

Thank you.
