We Use Pfsense for last 2yrs. I will recomend pfsense for firewalling & untangle for "UTM"
PFSense wouldn't fall under the "UTM" category. PFSense does not have UTM features such as antivirus scanning, malware protection, phish and spam filtering, etc. I've not read about any plugins that give it those features either, such as the Copfilter add-on for IPCop. PFSense is a great distro, can run on older P3. Pfsense (FreeBsd) QoS/Traffic Shaping features, Vonage VoIP, VPN, PROXY, FailOver calls have better quality. To: [email protected] Date: Wednesday, 20 January, 2010, 9:25 PM Dear Linux Gurus, I am exploring an open source alternate of Hardware Firewalls/UTMs. I strongly believe that Linux distros can be a better bet than these CISCO, Fortigate, Juniper or other if we configure them well on a decent piece of hardware. I saw a lot of options provided by our open source community and they claimed these products to be very good. Few of them which I shortlisted are below. # Untangel # Smoothwall # pfSense # Endian # M0n0wall # Vyatta I believe no one else can give a better opinion than our Linux Vadapav Community. Please share your thought if anyone has an working experience on the above. If not what do you say? Regards, Tej Pal The INTERNET now has a personality. YOURS! See your Yahoo!
