FHS http://www.pathname.com/fhs/pub/fhs-2.3.html#LIB64 says some arch should be in lib64 and Debian says it won't do it. http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-opersys.html I scanned 700 README files on my system and none have "lib64" string in there. Better stay out of this, I think.
