Hmm... While that makes sense (I'm using 2.6.15 and xorg 6.9) it was the same with the old 0.6 version. 0.7 came out on the repos, so I gave it a go.

Will do.
Hi, you are going to need to be a bit more specific here if we are
to get to the bottom of this. It surely didn't happen 'all of a
sudden' all by itself, presumably you've upgraded something
(kernel, X etc.) which is at the root of this.

The 0.7 release is targeted at kernel 2.6.16+ and xorg7. If you
are using a kernel earlier than that and xorg6, then you probably
won't see the full benefits, and indeed some strange things may
be par for the course. We can try to fix them if you can properly
pin them down.

I have reports of this working with etch for a graphire4, but you'll
have to manually update the xorg6 wacom_drv if the one supplied with
the X11R6 dist is not sufficient for you.

This does sound like a driver mismatch or misconfiguration to me
though. Please run through the test protocol in the lw-HOWTO to
see if you can narrow down the point at which things start to
go wrong.
Will do.
Thanks,
Chris
