xorg.conf looks very much that the one I uses, so I doubt that is the problem.

Did you unplug the tablet while you were trying to get things working? If so 
have you changed VT to tell the driver to re-open the tablet? 
(<ctrl>-<alt>-<F1> and then <alt>-<F7>)

I've had problem with 0.7.4-3 when the tablet wasn't connected when X started. 
In that case I had to restart X to get it to open the tablet. Maybe this is 
what you need to do? (easiest way to do this is to reboot the machine..)

If you still have problems after trying this, please include the linuxwacom 
version(s) you use and also relevant parts of /var/log/Xorg.0.log so we can 
see what it tries to do.
