I think I have it working now with GIMP.
It seems that when I installed wacom-tools there magically
appeared in /dev/input a   wacom-> event5.
When I made the consequent changes in xorg.conf
it worked beautifully, at least in GIMP.

I lost my USB mouse, but the wacom mouse works at least as well.

I'm very pleased :-)

And GIMP is much better than COREL draw or photoshop
on win32.

2. How was I supposed to determine which event wacom was bound to?
