Ok, so I just installed 0.7.7-3 and am really happy that now the Pad device on my Graphire 4 tablet effectively uses the buttons on the tablet as well as the wheel. However I've run into a "problem" with The GIMP: When trying to activate the extended device support in the Preferences, I noted a few things:
* In the window which serves to activate the devices, if I selected another device from the pull down menu, the axes and keys tabs would be "blanked-out" like if there was no redraw with the information for the device selected. They're present for the "cursor" device, but they're not as soon as I switch the device to anything (eraser, stylus, pad). * When I activate any of the tablet's devices, the functionality of the wheel disappears inside The GIMP, which means I can't use shift+wheel up/down to zoom in/out. * Both the Stylus and Eraser devices show an odd behavior. First of all, I don't very much like to draw with the tablet in Absolute mode, so I pretty much have always set the tablet into Relative mode for all devices (cursor, stylus, eraser). However when I enable these two devices in GIMP, the behavior in the program is like it was in Absolute mode, however there's a problem, as size of the picture on the screen does not match the "drawable area" (or "sensitive area") on the tablet, which means that the cursor pointer is at one position and the brush at another. This wouldn't be much of a problem if the draw corresponded to the sensitive area on the tablet, but it does not, rendering the use of the device in The GIMP pretty much useless, as there's no way to orientate myself on the screen and with my hand. Maybe the above problems are not The GIMP centric, but rather the way how GTK-input is treated or something, as this is the same for another program I extensively use: Inkscape. I can't enable the tablet devices without the program acting as if the stylus or eraser were in Absolute mode. I thought at first this was totally unrelated as I previously had the "issue", and resorted at not using the devices in Inkscape, as this was also the case before, but had never been an issue for The GIMP in the past. I have already erased my ~/.gimp* directories in hopes that some older configuration might had been messing with the settings, but apparently this has not been the case. Any one else experiencing this behavior in GIMP and other applications?
