Ah, I see.

However I was using 0.7.4_p3 (unless that had the high bit toolid
backported to it) with the same issue. I'm glad it's fixed in the latest
releases - however does that now mean that apps that wish to identify
tools specifically (eg the difference between my pen and my airbrush) will
have to be rewritten?

I'd like to be able to use the wheel on my airbrush pen, for example, to
change the "pressure" parameter in GIMP... I guess that's a big battle to
get all the Xinput-supporting apps to switch to a new mechanism when they
never supported the old one anyway!!
