Those who didn't attend missed a good meeting.
Had some good sponsors there. Imaginuity Interactive, a consulting firm
(not a recruiting agency, for clarification) were there, providing some
good information about their company, along with some job opportunities
that they have. Impact Innovations, an IT staffing firm, were in full
force, with five of their people there. They had some cool toys,
including some of those nifty cellophane-mints, as well as bouncy-balls
that light up. Infrastructure was there, showcasing the iiFramework.
They had free developer-edition cd's that they gave away; they also gave
away a full-version (one-site liscense) of the iiFramework.
"Mr. Cold Fusion", Ben Forta, gave a good speech, as always. He
outlined the history, and the future, of ColdFusion. He went into a lot
of good technical detail about CF 5.0 as well as the upcoming Neo.
Every time he would name a cool feature, such as User-Defined Functions
or queries of queries, he was greeted with a round of applause. He did
a good job of keeping it geek: pure technology talk, no sales pitches.
Coming from the meeting, I felt that CF was going to keep becoming a
strong web application language, as well as knowing that
Allaire/Macromedia are as committed to the developer community as they
have ever been. Additionally, throughout his speech and at the end, Ben
answered questions freely. Ben does a really good job of answering
every question completely, and not dismissing any questions as "silly"
or "novice". Is there anything he doesn't know?
This was an excellent meeting, all around. Turns out that this meeting
was the fifth largest CF user group meeting ever (worldwide).
Unsurprising, the top four were all Forta meetings as well.
Be sure to come to next month's meeting, where the CEO of Ektron, Bill
Rogers, will be speaking. Ektron makes eWebEdit, a popular WYSIWYG tool
that you can integrate into your web applications (it will actually be
bundled with the next version of Spectra). This meeting will be at
February's location, Knowledge Development Center in Irving. Food and
drinks will be provided by Imaginuity Interactive. Stay tuned to the
list and the website (www.DFWCFUG.org) for more details.
