I can
definitely see both sides of the issue. At the very minimum, I would like to see
a link to the cfasp site (an maybe the forum) and one to the flashcfm site I
posted earlier. I think the more interrelated we can make the community the
stronger it makes everything in the end.
I am
not worried that MM would have any objection. Their own products (in particular
Flash) also have many cross ties with ASP (and some other languages/servers/ and
technologies). The bottom line is that all this makes the entire developer
community stronger in the end.
Well, not being
a board member, maybe my opinion doesn't mean much but, I would have to
disagree. While we wouldn't want to go hardcore on ASP or other technologies,
I don't see any reason why talking about technologies as they relate to CF
wouldn't be appropriate. I participate in other lists and many
times other technologies are talked about. When they go on too long or get way
off base, we as members and moderators should get things back on track but
that should be about it. In some situations developers may need the
help of the collective brain this list provides and we don't always get to use
CF, so some reference for how another technology works like CF is helpful.
Again as long as it has some relevance to CF, as I believe this one
did, then it's for the greater good. If Macromedia would impose some sort
of sanction on the group (doubtful!) for having OT discussions, then we should
wonder about their intentions. This is a very good and effective group
and sometimes the quickest way to get an answer. Lets not get bogged down by
worrying about a company that would not exist with out us.
I
agree and will send future comments to your site - Thanks
Billy
I think it would be wise to avoid discussion
of ASP in this list. After all, we are a CF focused group, and it's
hard to garner support from Macromedia when we are discussing a competing
technology! :)
As such, I have followed through on my
promise of setting up a site and discussion forum for learning ASP
development for CF developers. The site is at www.cfasp.com. Right now the site is
on a tiny box on a tiny connection; I'll make adjustments as
necessary.
