It works great, useful for lots of DHTML purposes as well as programmatically communicating between the client and server. To say, maintain session state, do real time client side validation, load another URL, load HTML in real-time to the IFRAME in a content management system, so that you could see in real-time what your page is gonna look like.
Downfalls, of course netscape. ILAYER isn't as robust. If you can control you're target audiences browser, and use Netscape 6 or IE 4 or better, then it's a champ.
