Right now I feel like the dumbest person in the whole world (insert your joke here about agreeing w/me on that...) Anyway, I was looping over a list and doing the cfgridrows like that so that I had more control over them. However, that kept hitting me in the head with a large hammer, so I just went back and used the query attribute in my cfgrid, which seemed to work well enough. Now the next ? I needed to answer was "Why was it working one way and not the other?" So all of the sudden I put down my crack-pipe and realized that I was looping over a comma-delimited list whose elements sometimes had commas in them. That's likely to mess things up a bit huh??? So I changed the delims and it works fine.
