I don't think that MX is a step backwards. Perhaps a step sideways, but not a step backwards. That being said, I do think that the biggest problems have been with COM support (I've been fortunate in this regard, but I know many that haven't). Of course, think about it - a Java-based engine that is supposed to support a MS technology? That bugged me ever since I first heard of CF moving to Java. COM is a dying technology though - still supported, but give it 2 or 3 years, and it'll be gone. Had I been MM, I would have left COM out of CFMX. There's plenty of added functionality that would have more than made up for the loss.
I know there are some frustrations with DWMX. However, I can do about 80-90 % of what I could do in Studio, with enough features that Studio didn't offer me to make up the difference. Then again, I've been working with it since February or March - it does take some relearning. Also, keep in mind that due to the Adobe lawsuit, there's a handful of features that MM would have been forced to remove from Studio (actually they did; Homesite+ IS CF Studio 6), at the order of the courts. --- Billy Cravens Web and Software Consulting www.Architechx.com -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Ferguson, Ken Sent: Tuesday, July 16, 2002 4:36 PM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: Test DITTO, DITTO, DITTO!!! What a useless piece of software. There is a reason that I have never chosen to use DW up to this point, (the same reason I don't use Front Page.) All of the things that make Studio a cool little IDE are gone or at least changed negatively in DWMX. Studio is a text editor that allows quick access to files, tags and functions and very easy-to-use keyboard shortcuts... DWMX is a crappy WYSIWYG editor that claims to support CF, but from which the above features have been removed (or have at least been greatly diluted.) I'd also like to add that I'm none too impressed with CFMX as an application server so far either. All of my apps using COM are completely dead except for one, which is VERY, VERY slow now. I'm moving the bulk of my organizations apps over which I have power to .NET because I think MX is that big of a step backwards. I think we all saw this coming when MM bought Allaire. I've done my last three projects with CF and ASP.NET in parallel (with C#) and all three run more efficiently and more smoothly in .NET. -----Original Message----- From: Schreck, Tom To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 7/16/02 9:54 AM Subject: RE: Test I too am dismayed at how crappy Dreamweaver MX is. How can they take away all the shortcuts? Does anyone know if Studio 5 can be extended to work with CFC and CFXML? Are there any other features of CFMX that you would need to extend CF Studio with? Furthermore, I find it hard to believe that Dreamweaver MX is going to be better for me than CF Studio 5. The other day I got a dialog box in DWMX that said "Cancelling..." with a progress bar and a button that said "Cancel." I could not cancel the cancel. I attended that MX Studio seminar recently and was very impressed by the apparent power and ease of use of StudioMX. I attended a DFWCFUG meeting and found it, (and this list), to be filled with very knowledgeable and unusually helpful people. So I'd like to ask what, specifically, is giving everyone the biggest challenges with moving to StudioMX? And is it an interface and integration issue from previous versions of the individual software apps? Or is the whole MX thing still a bit buggy? Or is it something else?
