You can look up the testing center locations on Macromedia's site: http://www.macromedia.com/support/training/certified_professional_program/
I took my exam at a training center in Dallas. I would definitely say that you should have a lot of experience in addition to the certification--I had to work with a lot of certified Java developers in the past who didn't really know Java other than on paper, so IMO experience is more important than the certification. The certification is one of those things that can help you stand out in an "all other things being equal" situation though, so it certainly doesn't hurt.
If you are thinking about taking the exam, absolutely get Ben Forta's study guide and Centrasoft's ExamBuster:

Both are money well spent. One other tip--take your time on the exam. I think they give you 90 minutes. I tried to rush in over my lunch hour and do it so I only spent 30 minutes on the exam, and missed being "advanced" certified by one point as a result. ;-)

Along those lines, where/how do you get a CFMX certification?

Hi,
I work at a company that will pay for a certain # of certs per year.
I'm trying to get a job at a company that will help pay for the remaining two years of my BCIS degree. This means I'll probably do programming for a couple years and need to build my coldfusion and ASP programming experience.
Do you think I should get the coldfusion Mx certification or is it just like MCSE, where the cert really is just butter on top of hard-core experience.
Thanks,
Micky
