You could always make an RTV rubber mold of the armor parts and cast
your own clear armor. There's this stuff called clear casting epoxy
that supposedly dries clear, and for something as thin as the wall of
an armor plate, that will do nicely. Also available are opaque dyes,
transluscent dyes, and you can also mix granite powder for the look of
stone. I'm not sure how strong this casting epoxy is, but the West
System epoxy I use for bonding things is as strong as steel.
