It turns out that genetic mutations originate in sperms much more than
in eggs, about 600% more for humans. For a significant class of
mutations, it's dependent on the age of the father (increasing
linearly with age after 20yr old), but it's independent of the
mother's age. (Down's syndrome being an important exception) In
plain English: older fahters tend more to sire babies with congenital
diseases.
Just responding to the part of probability here: just a simple
thinking can easily show you that it's ALWAYS the case the male would
contribute more in mutation than females, as human males creates so
many sperms (please please don't relate this to my "unhonorable
Gundam sighting" thread, even though I just did) per fluid oz. and
females got just so about 400 eggs per lifetime. Copying 100 millions
times of the same thing surely have more potential of error than 400
times.
