To clarify neither me nor that Chinese review think Tachikoma is plated/chromed. It's just that the model is designed to be capable to have it and I agree with that author Wave will release one. I think Tachikoma is just highly polished like a well waxed car.
I wanted to watch but SAC is generally out of my schedule (I'm the sleep-early, get up-early type). And actually I watched more than 5 mins. I watched part of another episode that seems like someone (a school) is housing a bunch of kids in virtual reality for some purpose and the kids turned wide-eye drug-high like. Don't know what it's about though.
And yeah they're scratch built, and some are freaking small... click around man.
The Chinese review noticed that the runners are arranged such that it
would be easy to release a plated or chromed version in the future.
Well I can't remember the last time Wave released a plated or chromed
kit, but there's gotta be a first for everything right? I just
wouldn't be holding my breath. Anyway unless HGUC keeps up with bad
guys releases for the whole year, I think I can fit a second Tachikoma
(2800 Yens?) within the budget :P

BTW Boaz, I disagree that Tachikoma is meant to be plated or chromed.
It's always shinny and buffed (just like everything else in SAC), but
it's not plated like Type-100. Nevertheless, a chromed Tachikoma
would look very cool indeed.

If you've only seen 5 mins of GITS, then you should definitely watch
SAC. Tachikoma isn't a "lead" or hero char so much, but played some
roles in the "Complex" arc, especially vs. the "Naval SDF Arm-suit"

Both Syl and I held back a tear when we watch that episode. The last
time I get emotional about anime was probably the last episode of
0079.
WAIT A MINUTE... These Tachikoma were all finished in 04-05, so they
have nothing to do with the Wave kit. All scratch builts O_O
