In the lab we have alginate, the product name is "Densply caulk", the
trade name is Jeltrate.  It's used by dentist to make impression of
the mouth cavity.  Since it can go inside the mouth, it may (or may
not!) be safe for baby skin.  Hmm the MSDS says it contains silica,
which is at best "mostly harmless".   Perhaps you can find pure
alginate to try.

I should also add, yes it says "alginate". Doc you got it dead on!
