Replying to my own message. How fun. I should have read a little further into the link. A few paragraphs from the end there's this little piece that mentions Star Wars as well as another well-known sci-fi movie that came out around the same time. It provides a little more elaboration on the whole thing. >One further element was needed to ensure Dolby's lasting presence in the field >of film sound: audience awareness. This came in 1977, with the release of two >immensely popular films that were recorded with the new Dolby technology: Star >Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. These blockbusters were exhibited >in enough theatres that had the new Dolby equipment for audiences and industry >alike to sit up and take notice. Marketing research soon showed that >moviegoers would seek out theatres exhibiting in the Dolby stereo format, and >avoid mono presentations of the same films. Not really related to Gundam, but a neat story nonetheless, imo. junior -- _______________________________________________ Search for businesses by name, location, or phone number. -Lycos Yellow Pages http://r.lycos.com/r/yp_emailfooter/http://yellowpages.lycos.com/default.asp?SRC=lycos10 -------------------------------------------------- The Gundam Mailing List MK-II [email protected] Archives: http://www.gundam.com/gml Help: Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] with this in the BODY: help list
